International Organization for Standardization
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 162 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant international standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges. ISO is not an acronym for the International Organization for Standardization, otherwise it would have been (IOS). It’s not a country’s code like BHR for middle east, although these abbreviations are defined in one of the ISO standards, 3166-1 to be exact. ISO is derived from the Greek isos, meaning equal.
